Sophisticated mountain life…

We felt like we were staying in a barn renovated by Ralph Lauren. The design details and comfort were exceptional. No detail was spared and the chickens, sheep and donkeys were the highlight of the trip for our boys. Excellent location close to Brevard and Pisgah National Forest. We HIGHLY recommend this property and the owners went out of their way to make sure all was to our liking. We look forward to returning again one day.

The location is priceless…

Fodderstack Farn is the travelers delight. High end amenities and decor without losing its rustic charm. Views of the mountain, beautiful spacious rooms, not to mention the most comfortable beds, Renee has knocked the vacationer wish list out of the park. THE LOCATION IS PRICELESS. Minutes from the Waterfalls and incredibly well maintained trails we have found “A TRUE HIKERS PARADISE”. Renee is highly personable and instantly we found ourselves very comfortable seeking her advise on dinning, hiking and our time at the Biltmore. Every day was a new adventure and we sat aside one out of the seven days to simply enjoy the “barn” and relax on the comfy couch. The uniqueness of barnyard friendly animals, the attention to detail of a wonderful owner and so much to see and do makes Fodderstack Farm a perfect vacation for all.

A tranquil and lovely home for a vacation…

My friends and I came from California to do a 5-day mountain bike race in the Western NC mountains. We were looking for a place to stay that could help us relax from the intensity and strain of the bike race. Fortunately, we were able to find this lovely Brevard barn!

It is rustically appointed and located in an amazing, pastoral valley. Views of the Blue Ridge mountains, silos, and plowed fields are right outside of the window. We loved having a farm near the property, as we were able to get fresh farm eggs right from the chicken coop for breakfast every morning.

The owners were immediately responsive to the requests we had, and all of the interior appointments to the house were up to date. This is the second time I have stayed here, and I am looking forward to a third time!

Beyond Expectations…

What a treasure! Fodderstack Cabin is indeed an charming and comfortable place to retreat near Brevard, NC. The drive through the winding mountain roads and scenic pastures is just a prelude to what is waiting for you! The pictures online give a great representation of what you will find. It is evident that the owner has given a lot of thought and love to the details and design of the cabin. It is as if you are walking in to a magazine layout! The cabin was immaculately clean and all the convenience of home were available including a functional kitchen, spacious dinning area, and laundry room with a new washer and dryer. Renee, the owner, was very gracious and delightful to work with. I look forward to future stays at Fodderstack Cabin as I visit my son at Brevard College.
…p.s. A stay in a converted barn would not be complete without farm animals! Sheep in the pasture and chickens out back were icing on the cake! Renee, is doing well in tending her little plot of Heaven on Earth!

A simply lovely farm experience for families…

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left — we could not have asked for a better farm experience with our children. Our children (and the adults) enjoyed gathering eggs from the hen house in the morning, grooming the donkeys throughout the day and chasing fireflies together in the pasture every night. The farm is close enough to enjoy all that Brevard and the surrounding area has to offer — and still enjoy mornings and coming home to all that the farm has to offer in the afternoons and evenings.
Renee has created a home away from home for anyone interested in living the “farm life” for a weekend or for an extended family vacation. The house has three bedrooms, each with a full bath. Each room is comfortable and well appointed. We enjoyed the rocking chairs on the porch for morning coffee and the fire pit out back for making s’mores after dinner.
We highly recommend Fodderstack Farm. Many thanks to Renee for a lovely stay.

A wonderful location and sanctuary…

The location near Pisgah and Dupont was wonderful for hiking John Rock and seeing the waterfalls. Close to Brevard for exploring. Fresh eggs from the hens and hearing the crickets at night was peaceful. Will be back!

My family visited Fodderstack Farm on Columbus Day weekend. If Ralph Lauren designed a cabin, it would look something like the interior of this rental. The decor was thoughtful and elegant and the place was immaculate. We came down to this region because of the proximity to biking and hiking in DuPont Forest. It rained on our first day and we relaxed on the property. The cabin is so nice and the scenery was gorgeous that we did not feel like we were missing much. The real bonus here is that you can look at the window and see the animals. My wife and I travelled with our three children and they were thrilled to see the chickens, sheep, horses, donkeys and ducks. Renee was an excellent host. My kids loved gathering eggs. Fodderstack is close to the restaurants in Brevard and around thirty minutes from the Biltmore Estate and all of the attractions in Asheville. I cannot wait to return. We will do some more hiking and biking and perhaps some fly fishing. This place is an absolute gem. I would highly recommend it.

A simply lovely farm experience for families

Our weekend at Fodderstack Farm was an opportunity for old college friends to get away and enjoy a long weekend filled with great music, good dining, a little sightseeing… and comfortable chilling out in the country.

The house is rustic charming and has the necessary modern conveniences. The layout is spacious and suited our needs well. Chickens, donkeys, sheep, and white squirrels make the farm even more fun. Thanks Renee for providing a wonderful getaway. We hope to be back next year!

A great long weekend retreat

So, picture a beautifully restored, solid-as-a-rock, clean and lightly rustic two-story barn facing Fodderstack Mountain with two beautiful sweeping pastures in front of you, a chicken coop and yard adjacent to the barn, a nice sitting area near the pasture with a fire pit, a winding driveway in from the road, a grass yard with flower bed behind you and a sitting porch just off the back door. Now, add a bunch of sheep (including two babies) in the pasture along with two delightful, sweet and somewhat quirky donkeys keeping the coyotes away from the sheep. And add about a dozen chickens quietly going about their business of supplying you with 8-10 fresh eggs every day. Include the pleasant and caring owners who stop by to care for everything. And, finally, include wild turkeys, deer and a constellation of birds. And you are getting close to describing ‘our’ place for a week. Now that you are ‘here’, venture into nearby DuPont State Forest (15 mins), Pisgah National Forest (15 mins), Hendersonville, Brevard, Asheville, Horesehoe (and its fine Grill/Cafe) and other great places and you are starting to get the picture. Except you won’t want to leave ‘your’ farm – it is just that nice, peaceful and quiet all day and all night. Choose to get involved – with your children or by yourself – in caring for ‘your’ animals and you will find a sweetness in all of them. As in the entire barn and property. Indulge if this appeals to you. It definitely did to us. And by the way, if you do visit ‘our’ farm, please take care of ‘our’ animals. We left loving all of them.

So Much More Than Just a Place to Stay

Tranquil Getaway Spot
From the moment we booked the Fodderstack Cabin we knew we made the right choice. Renee was wonderful to work with and a wealth of information on the area. Once we arrived at the property and entered the cabin we felt at home. The cabin has wonderful touches throughout and is supplied with everything you need. It is also located in a great area. Getting to Asheville was so easy (Go see the Biltmore Estate!). The cabin is nearby quaint towns like Hendersonville and Brevard which are fun to explore. The Pisgah National Forest is very close as well and fun for waterfall hunting. We loved our stay and enjoyed the farm very much. Plan to come back again.

Beautiful Fall get-away
What a hidden gem. The location of the Barn-house gave a perfect view of the mountains. The house is AMAZING.The décor of the inside and outside gave a feeling to country life in the mountains. Small details such as fresh eggs every morning, the fall display of mums on and around the porch were very lovely. We are planning to return next year for a visit. I would recommend this location for anyone wanting a quiet, peaceful vacation..

Beautiful Fall get-away

Classy and Rustic
Absolutely best weekend getaway my family and I have ever had. Loved the fresh eggs and laid back feel of the place. Can not wait to go back.

Classy and Rustic

Our stay at Fodderstack Farm
We arrived at Fodderstack Farm in the late afternoon. We were delighted by the accommodations. From the welcoming wreath on the “Barn” door, to a thoughtfully decorated interior, the pleasant introduction continued as we found fresh eggs in the refrigerator, nice linen’s throughout and an extremely comfortable bed!

The owner’s provided helpful information on the area. Things to do, places to go etc. Our privacy was respected, but Renee made sure that we knew she was there if we needed anything.

We had our 35lb. dog with us. They put their horse and the 2 donkeys in an enclosed area and let us take our dog to a back pasture where she could safely run free! The sheep and free range chickens were a delight as well!

Our stay at Fodderstack Farm

My friends and I came to Brevard over the weekend for a mountain biking trip. While the weather did not quite cooperate, everything in the home was completely hospitable! We found the bike cleaning station to be invaluable, considering how much mud we had accumulated on our steeds. The animals were a treat to watch in the morning. The bedrooms were rustically appointed, and the lighting in the house is charming.

We particularly loved the kitchen, which was cozy and had really neat fasteners and drawers with nice modern touches for appliances.

All in all, we have stayed in over a dozen different NC mountain cabins for bike trips over the last few years and this one is easily in the top 3. We can’t wait to come here again!

Perfect Abode

Rustic Luxury in Beautiful Pisgah Forest/Brevard
What a wonderful place! It was like stepping into a Ralph Lauren ad—so lovely and charming, in a beautiful setting. We loved gathering fresh eggs for breakfast each morning, as well as interacting with all the animals—donkeys, sheep, horse and chickens—on the farm. Renee has thought of everything needed to make for a restful stay. A highlight was the Blue Ridge Parkway drive and seeing the waterfalls of the Pisgah Forest. Good food options and some interesting towns to explore nearby. Highly recommended!

Impossible to be disappointed

My stay at Fodderstack Farm felt like an escape from reality. We arrived to find fresh farm eggs in the refrigerator and an impeccably clean, cozy, stylish house with plenty of room to make ourselves comfortable. It was wonderful to discover that the TV was connected to Netflix so we had plenty of entertainment. There were also several board games, including my favorite – Yahtzee!

There’s nothing quite like sitting down for a cup of coffee in the morning and looking out the window to see sheep, two sassy donkeys, a horse, and mountains out the window. I also loved the chickens – I spent an hour sitting in the fenced-in area with them and they are so friendly and interesting to watch.

Renee was a wonderful host and the house was above and beyond what was advertised. This was a much needed escape and I can’t wait to come back

A breath of fresh air

My girlfriends and I booked a week of cycling in Brevard with a larger group of cyclists but we didn’t want to spend 7 nights in a hotel. That’s when I came across the listing for Fodderstock Barn on HomeAway. I immediately fell in love with the cabin just through the picture on HomeAway — seeing the location in person was even better! Renee was quick and professional when responding to my many emails and inquiries – she even went so far as to recommend local restaurants, hiking trails, local ice cream spots, etc. I was a bit hesitant at first to book a location site unseen but I can’t tell you how much the 4 of us loved every moment of our time at Fodderstock. The scenery is amazing. The house has every amenity you can imagine. The donkeys, sheep and chickens were adorable and friendly. The barn is very well-situated to Brevard so you can easily drive in for shopping and restaurants – but far enough away that you really feel like you can unwind and relax. We had friends over to the Barn (that were staying at a hotel in Brevard) and they all commented how they wished they were staying there with us! I would recommend a stay at Fodderstock Barn to everyone. Renee and her husband were incredible hosts (they even ensured that fresh eggs were in our fridge for the day of our arrival!) and extremely pleasant and easy to communicate with via email in advance of our trip. I am already looking forward to my return to Fodderstock next May!

My girlfriends and I booked a week of cycling

Our family found Fodderstack Farm to be a real treasure. We have stayed in dozens of HomeAway properties, and certainly would rank this as one of the top lodgings we’ve ever rented in terms of charm, comfort, style, and convenience. Its proximity to all of the recreational and cultural attractions of the greater Asheville area makes it a must for couples and families looking to combine outdoor adventure with a rustic setting and refined creature comforts. Also, our children loved being able to get eggs from the hen house out back! Highly recommended.

Refined and Restful

Renee has created a special retreat! Local flowers greeted us, arranged in mason jars on the covered porch. Behind the barn door a lovely space has been crafted. It has been refinished to perfection, with gorgeous heart pine floors, interesting artifacts, and comfortable furniture that gives way to a large window overlooking the rolling pasture and mountains beyond! The home and property are extremely clean and well cared for, including “the girls” who gave us gifts of their eggs each day! The beds are comfortable, and a bath for each of the 3rooms is a bonus. Renee paid us a visit shortly after we arrived making sure we had all we needed, including lots of recommendations for hikes in the area. Instead of the planned hikes, rain changed our itinerary to exploring the shops in downtown Brevard, visiting the trout farm, having the best ice cream we ever tasted at Dolly’s, and enjoying our special barn home, Fodderstack! Our grandson played the auto harp, we played games, gathered eggs, and got to know the 2 sweet barn kitties. As we were leaving we asked our grand sons if they would like to take a trip with us next year. Their response: “can we come back here?” we sure hope so!

Beautiful Space in a beautiful place!

Thanksgiving Retreat – Wonderful Experience!
This was a first stay for my family and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our young grandchildren enjoyed meeting all the animals and the restored barn was wonderfully decorated and very comfortable! Renee and Drew were wonderful hosts and we look forward to seeing them again! Our family took advantage of the hiking trails to the waterfalls, shopping nearby in Bevard and Hendersonville, and just enjoying the quiet and beauty of the area. The beds were comfortable and the cabin was very clean. We are looking forward to returning to explore other attractions that we didn’t have time for this trip!

What a tranquil and lovely home for a vacation!

We had a wonderful family gathering to celebrate our grandson’s second birthday and to have a welcome respite from the heat and humidity in Chapel Hill and Atlanta. The house was very comfortable and provided both privacy and several well-planned gathering spots. We particularly enjoyed the large, covered front porch with rockers and a dining area where we ate most of our meals. While we were looking forward to our grandson feeding the chickens and gathering eggs, we all found that to be a fun experience. The house was immaculately clean and well maintained and Renee provided many tips for fun in the area We hope to return at a later date – maybe to enjoy the Fall color.

Cool place in the cool NC mountains

Wonderful retreat that feels so cozy and relaxing.
This is my second stay at Fodderstack Farm and it was just as good as the first. The barn/cabin is so cozy that you don’t want to leave it. Very clean and just the right touchs to make you feel at home. The surrounding area has plenty of activities to do and all the information to find and get to them is provided for you. We particularly love interacting with the animals. I want to make it a yearly tradition to meet there with my friends.

Sophisticated Mountain Life

An experience you won’t forget!
For those of you who have never had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful retreat, you are in for an experience. The accommodations are wonderful and the small farm is right there behind the house. It is so much fun to interact with the animals who are all so very sweet. You find yourself falling in love with them! Rooster…the horse, is the softest horse I have ever petted! Frannie (I call her Lucy chicken) the chicken is very curious! She loves to look at your jewelry! And Charlotte and Anastasia, the donkeys, absolutely love to have their picture taken. They will photo bomb your selfies and grin while they do it! You will love the feel and relaxation of this wonderful retreat! Try it once and you will come back every year! I do! Thank you to the owners for being so wonderful and sharing your little piece of heaven with me!

Our family completely enjoyed our brief stay at Renee’s beautifully renovated barn. We felt like we were staying on the set of a Ralph Lauren photo shoot! The renovations and decorations are impeccable! We felt like true elegant farmers. We loved being able to say good morning and good night to the farm animals and ate farm-fresh eggs every day. We took advantage of as many waterfall hikes as possible and were blown away by the natural beauty offered in that area. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality, Renee! We can’t wait to come back!

We loved the house. We had everything we needed and our children loved interacting with the animals and the location was perfect for our weekend outdoor adventures!

Fantastic Fodderstack
My husband, adult son and his fiancée stayed at Fodderstack Farms for a long weekend. Owner has thought of everything. Animals (sheep, donkeys, horse and chickens) were very welcoming. Hiked to the Triple and High falls in DuPont Forest, attended the Mountain Song Festival, went to the Farmers’ Market in downtown Brevard, and had two meals at Square Root (terrific scallops and risotto). Brevard is a great place to visit and Fodderstack is a perfect place to stay.

Great location, friendly animals, gracious host, beautiful views, peaceful evenings, and fresh eggs each morning…what other rental can offer all this?! The only thing wrong with our stay was that it was too brief!
